The Sy Syms School of Business Faculty Seminar hosted Dr. Robert Engle, 2003 Nobel Laureate in Economics and Michael Armellino Professor of Finance at New York University Stern School of Business, for a talk on September 22, 2016, titled “Prospects for Global Financial Stability.” During the lecture, Engle described a measure he called “SRISK,” for “systemic risk,” which is an equation designed to gauge the risk exposure of financial institutions during a severe market decline. Dr. S. Abraham Ravid, professor of finance at Sy Syms, introduced Engle and presented him with a plaque. Engle also conferred with President Richard Joel and Dr. Selma Botman, provost and vice president for academic affairs, and had lunch and meetings with Sy Syms Dean Moses Pava and Associate Deans Avi Giloni and Michael Strauss. The Sy Syms faculty seminar, organized by Ravid and Dr. Henry He Huang, associate professor of accounting, regularly brings top-level speakers to Sy Syms from distinguished institutions around the world.
