MTA Debate Team Challenges Flatbush on Topic of Mandatory Voting

by Ezra Muscat ('19) On Wednesday, the MTA Debate team went to Flatbush to debate the topic of whether voting should be mandatory. The positive team argued that mandatory voting is necessary to truly make America a democracy, and that it would improve the quality of our leaders. The negative team, on the other hand, posited that mandatory voting would be a breach of our civil rights. For this debate, Mrs. Levitt paired up novice debaters with experienced ones to help the novices gain valuable experience in the art of debating as the end of the current debate season approaches. Our eight debaters presented persuasive and well thought out arguments, while utilizing their extensive research. Although we do not yet have the results of the competition, we are confident that we performed very well and won many of our matches.
