YU Mourns the Passing of Longtime Azrieli Faculty Member Who Made Profound Impact on Jewish Day Schools Yeshiva University mourns the passing of Rabbi Dr. Chaim Feuerman, the Golda Koschitzky Professor of Jewish Education at the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration, where he served on the faculty for more than 28 years.

With more than four decades of wide-ranging experience at the helm of Jewish day schools, Rabbi Feuerman created innovative curricula and taught countless educators, supervised hundreds of student teachers, and influenced the lives of Jewish educators and students across the country and overseas. At Azrieli, his teaching and research interests included methods and models of teaching; classroom management; mentoring principals and teachers; and strategies in effective Jewish values acquisition. “In his decades serving as a day school principal, his wisdom and gentle guidance touched many a student and teacher,” said Dr. Rona Novick, Azrieli dean. “He was uniformly beloved by students who learned from him one year ago or 20 years ago.  He was the epitome of an educator, open to learning from everyone, and viewing all of life as a teachable moment.  He was a paragon of derech eretz, and in his gentle way, made everyone who had the privilege of knowing or working with him feel that he understood they were b’tzelem Elokim.  He will be sorely missed, but forever remembered in the hundreds of educators who live his message and methods in their classrooms.” Rabbi Feuerman is survived by his children, Simcha Feuerman, Yisroel Feuerman, Malka Schrieber and Ruth Seidenfeld. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, September 20, at Schwartz Brothers Funeral Chapel, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, New York 11375.
