Wurzweiler Launches Author's Corner Book Talks

December 8 Series Premiere Features Interview With Sherry Amatenstein '07W  Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work recently launched a new series of social work book talks that will illuminate some of the most interesting and critical topics in the social work field today. Called Author’s Corner, each session of the four-part series will highlight a publication by Wurzweiler alumni or faculty and feature an interview with the author by a current member of the Wurzweiler community followed by a question and answer segment and book signing.

The first event will take place on Thursday, December 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law Moot Court Room, located at 55 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York. The talk will showcase a collection of essays edited by Sherry Amatenstein ‘07W, titled How Does That Make You Feel?, which offers personal reflections from therapists on struggles they have faced in the field, such as disliking a patient or feeling unequipped to help. Amatenstein will be interviewed by Dr. Rober Schwalbe, chairman emeritus of the Wurzweiler Board of Overseers. “The purpose of the series is to showcase some of the amazing work being done by people connected to Wurzweiler and create points of conversation about these important topics,” said Dr. Lynn Levy, assistant professor of social work at Wurzweiler. “ ‘The Author’s Corner’ will demonstrate how Wurzweiler, with over 3,000 alumni in the field, continues to play a distinctive role in the evolution of the social work profession.” All events will be free and open to the public, and continuing education credits are available. Future talks will feature Dr. Joan Beder, professor of social work, about her book Caring for Our Military: A Guide for Helping Professionals, and Levy and her husband, Dr. Philip Levy, on the their book The Resilient Couple: Navigating Together Through Life.
