A recent graduate of Bais Yaakov High School of Indiana, Amiya is spending 2013-16 attending the Hadas program, which includes a year of religious studies and two years in the IDF, at Midreshet Lindenbaum. In 2013 she participated in the Tikvah-Straus Summer Institute on God, Ethics, and American Democracy at Yale University and Yeshiva University, which has informed her perspectives on matters such as the relationship between Judaism and Western culture and the brilliance of C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton. Amiya also loves singing and studying the connections between religion and music. After military service – partly inspired by the influence of the Tikvah-Straus program – she plans to apply to the PEP (philosophy, economics, and political science) program at Hebrew University to continue studying the way individuals and societies respond to the material problems of scarce resources and human demand as well as the greater intellectual questions concerning human existence.
