YU’s Career Development Center (CDC) hosted an inaugural appreciation reception on June 4th at the Ivry Center in the Schottenstein Residence Hall on the Beren Campus to show gratitude to the many employers and alumni who provided internships, full-time positions, or career advice and mentoring to YU students this past year.
Marc Goldman, executive director at the CDC, made opening remarks, thanking everyone for their time and help during the year and noting the various 
successes of the CDC that were made possible, in part, by their efforts. These successes include the 10,000th job posting on the YU CareerLink; nearly 60 employers participating in job expos; hundreds of volunteers for informational interviews as part of YU InfoLink; Wall Street Series events and finance internship initiatives; 70 students participating in job shadowing or employer site visits; and many more programs and events throughout the year.
Goldman declared, “I hope to make the appreciation reception an annual event. It’s a wonderful opportunity to thank and acknowledge the people who help make our office’s goals achievable and to discuss trends and changes in various fields and the how we can continue to help students meet their career goals in the future.”
Three awards were given to individuals who the CDC wished to recognize for their assistance this past year: Joel Strauss ’85YC, ’92C, received the Alumni Partner Award; Barbara Birch, Senior Director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Giving, received the Campus Partner Award; and Mark Goldenberg, an accountant at the firm JH Cohn, received the Employer Partner Award.
Strauss, Birch and Goldenberg were all instrumental in creating important programs or opportunities for YU students and in educating students about the working world after their graduation from YC, Stern and Syms.
Strauss helped coordinate one of the CDC’s most successful events last year, “Being Orthodox in an Unorthodox World.” He said, “As chairman of the newly created Career Planning and Placement Committee of the YU Undergraduate Alumni Council, I look forward to continuing to help the CDC and the students by encouraging fellow alumni to serve as a resource for the CDC and to create new internship and job opportunities for our students. It’s a great feeling when you know you helped a student make a career choice or find a job, and as a proud alum, I enjoy helping the students who will soon be my fellow alumni.”
The CDC is now planning its schedule of programs for the 2012-2013 academic year.
