Stern Faculty, Alumna and Undergraduates Publish Article in A Medical Science Journal

Faculty members of the Stern College for Women Biology Department have partnered with an alumna and current undergraduates in the school to author an article that was recently featured in the 2013 edition of Oxidants and Antioxidants in Medical Science. Dr. Harvey Babich, professor of biology; Dr. Harriet Zuckerbraun, clinical associate professor of biology; Dr. Jeffrey Weisburg, Doris Kukin Chair in Molecular Biology and clinical assistant professor of biology; and Dr. Alyssa Schuck, clinical assistant professor of biology, collaborated with Hannah Esan '13s and current Stern students Esther Robin, Ayelet Bersson, Jordana Weitschner and Tova Lahasky on the article, titled, "Cytotoxic and proapoptotic activities of gallic acid to human oral cancer HSC-2 cells." The article discusses whether the consumption of natural products rich in gallic acid, such as blackberries, raspberries, mango, tea leaves, walnuts, or red wine, reduce cancer risk because of their prooxidant properties.
