Ravid Organizes Joint International Conference on Economics of Media and Entertainment Industries

Abraham Ravid, the Sy Syms Professor of Finance at the Sy Syms School of Business, recently co-organized the 17th Annual Mallen Economics of Filmed Entertainment Conference, together with Olav Sorenson of the Yale School of Management. The conference, which ran from November 12-13 and was held at YU's Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, featured presentations from academics representing a wide range of universities, such as Columbia University, New York University, and Carnegie Mellon, as well as other institutions from across the United States and Australia, Denmark, Germany, and France. Panel discussions featured industry experts such as Broadway producer Barbara Whitman and Jeffrey Korchek, executive vice president of business affairs and strategy for Sony Pictures Animation. Other participants from Sy Syms included Dr. Selma Botman, provost and vice president of academic affairs at Yeshiva University; Dr. Moses Pava, dean of Sy Syms; and Michael Strauss, associate dean and entrepreneur-in-residence at Sy Syms. Ravid presented a paper with colleague Dr. Shu Han, assistant professor of information systems at Sy Syms.
