Barrera Delivers Lecture in Greece

barrera_lecture03_600Dr. Marissa Barrera, speech-language pathologist and multiple sclerosis certified specialist in the Mordecai D. & Monique C. Katz School for Graduate & Professional Studies MS Program in Speech-Language Pathology, gave a lecture on January 9, 2017, at Athens Metropolitan College (AMC) in Greece. The lecture is a part of a larger collaboration Barrera is establishing between AMC and Yeshiva University for a clinical cultural exchange program for the Speech-Language Pathology students. Below is an article published by AMC (translated from the Greek) about the lecture: “Students of the speech therapy department of the Metropolitan College had the opportunity to attend a lecture with internationally renowned speech therapist Dr. Marissa Barrera, CCC-SLP, from Yeshiva University in New York, who specializes in dysphagia. The lecture was titled ‘The Role of Modalities in Dysphagia Management Across the Lifespan: An Introduction to NMES, sEMG and Neuromuscular Taping.’ The student experience was very positive, as they had the opportunity to experience innovative techniques and come into contact with a professional speech therapist from another country and to formulate their questions through an interesting and interactive process. “The lecture was part of the wider cooperation that exists between the undergraduate BSc Logopaedics curriculum at Metropolitan College and the MS Speech-Language Pathology Program of Yeshiva University in New York. This cooperation between the two educational institutions is a key objective, including the development of research and professional skills of students through an intercultural teaching method.”
