gurock_520x468Dr. Jeffrey Gurock, the Libby M. Klaperman Professor of Jewish History, appeared on the “Rabbi Wechsler Teaches” show on Sirius XM Stars. The show is hosted by Rabbi Harlan J. Wechsler, the founding Rabbi of Congregation Or Zarua in Manhattan. Gurock's interview occurs about 21 minutes into the program. Wechsler spoke to Gurock about his newest book, Constant Challenge: Sports and American Judaism. Gurock noted that while he used “sports” in the title, "This is not really a sport books. It’s a book about how a foreign cultural phenomenon called ‘sports’ enters in the life of Jewish men and women in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries and all the conflicts that arise in being both Jewish and playing a very secular activity. I use the metaphor of sports to understand American Judaism.”
