Zweig Co-Authors a Paper and a Poster

Dr. Richard ZweigDr. Richard Zweig, professor of psychology at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and director of the Ferkauf Older Adult Program, has co-authored a paper, “Psychotherapy termination practices with older adults: Impact of patient and therapist characteristics,” with Dr. Daniel Sullivan ’13F (Department of  Psychiatry and Behaviorial Sciences at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY) and Dr. Patricia Zeff (private practice). The aims of the study were to survey clinicians’ opinions regarding psychotherapy practices in mutual termination with a specified population (depressed older adult outpatients) and to examine the patient and therapist characteristics that may influence such practices. On a side note, this paper by Dr. Sullivan was declared by the editorial team of Clinical Gerontologist as one of the best papers published by a new and emerging scholar for 2018. It was one of two papers selected out of a total of 21 papers submitted for the competition. Dr. Zweig also co-authored a poster with Dr. Shira Kafker ’18F entitled “Social Support Buffers the Relationship Between Personality Pathology and Depression in Older Adults” which will be presented at the Gerontological Society of America’s 70th Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, running from November 14-18, 2018. The Ferkauf Older Adult Program will be profiled in the December 2018 issue of the American Psychological Association’s Monitor on Psychology in an article about model programs which deliver integrated mental health services to older adults within primary care settings.
