Dr. Irit FelsenDr. Irit Felsen, adjunct professor at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, is co-chair of the Trauma Working Group in the NGO Committee on Mental Health. The NGO Committee works with the United Nations (UN), and its specialized agencies, β€œto ensure the inclusion of mental health issues within a broader context of concerns such as vulnerable populations, human rights, poverty, violence, the environment, peace, and well-being.”

Dr. Felsen has planned the annual trauma group program scheduled for the February 2019 meeting of the NGO Committee. The meeting is open to people outside the UN and interested students and faculty are strongly encouraged to attend.

This year, there will be two speakers. Dr. Cindy Veldhuis from Columbia University will present her research on the effect the current administration has had on gender issues, especially related to individuals who identify as non-sexually conforming, bisexual, queer, transgender or genderqueer.

Dr. Spyros Orfanos, clinic director of the New York University postdoctoral program in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, will discuss immigration and displacement and the interface of psychoanalysis and human rights.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, February 14, 2019, between 2–4 p.m. Contact Dr. Felsen in January at Irit.Felsen@gmail.com for the final details about how to register for the meeting.
