Wednesday, February 26th, the Honors Program had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Micheal Rockland, professor of American Studies at Rutgers University. Prof. Rockland spoke to the students about his road to academia, and how he developed his interest in Sarmiento, a great Argentinian leader from the middle of the 19th century. Prof. Rockland served as a cultural attache as part of the U.S. Diplomatic Service early on in his career, and held students rapt with his discussion of what Sarmiento means to Argentina and how his works highlight the cultural blind spot of the US to Latin America.
