Online Cybersecurity Master’s Degree Launched

Everspring, a designer of online and hybrid educational programs, helped build the online M.S. degree.
An online cybersecurity master’s degree focusing on threat mitigation, detection and defense has been launched by the Katz School of Science and Health. Applications for the program are now being accepted for the spring term, which starts on Tuesday, Jan. 19. For more information and to apply, visit online.yu.edu/katz.
“The city of New York, its dynamic corporate culture and its vibrant and rapidly evolving cybersecurity industry inform everything we teach in our cybersecurity program,” said Dr. Paul Russo, vice provost and dean of the Katz School.
Students will gain cybersecurity know-how in systems architecture, operating systems, applications, endpoints, securing data, networking, cloud security and software development. In addition, they will become certified as an information security manager (CISM), in risk and information systems control (CRISC) and as an ethical hacker (CEH), which are some of the most desired credentials available in the field of cybersecurity.
After the program’s first course, students will also be prepared to sit for the exam certifying them to become information systems security professionals (CISSP).
“When they graduate, they will have access to jobs at the biggest companies in the heart of New York City, the global epicenter for cybersecurity,” said David Schwed, co-director with Lev Feldman of the master’s program.
The program comprises 10 courses and can be completed in as few as 20 months. The program is delivered fully online, and students have the option of completing an internship under the supervision of a staff member at a company of their choice. Courses are taught by security leaders at top-20 global banks and corporations, and former military intelligence officers.
“Our mission at Katz is not simply to train successful cybersecurity professionals,” said Dr. Russo, “but to produce leaders who will thrive at major organizations and shape innovation in the field for years to come.”
The Katz School partnered with Everspring, a leading designer of online and hybrid educational programs, to build the online M.S. degree. The company is a familiar presence at Yeshiva University, having worked on the Wurzweiler School of Social Work’s online master of social work and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law’s online master of laws in intellectual property.
