Library Book Talk with Joanne Jacobson on her Memoir, Every Last Breath

Join us on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. and hear Joanne Jacobson, Professor Emerita of English and Former Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Yeshiva College, discuss her book, Every Last Breath. When Jacobson's writing about her mother’s respiratory illness was interrupted by her own diagnosis with a rare blood disorder, she found her perspective profoundly altered. Every Last Breath follows these two chronic illnesses as they grow unexpectedly intertwined. Jacobson brings the reader to the emotionally raw present, where potentially fatal illness and “end of life” both remain, emphatically, life. Her memoir explores the ways that illness calls us out of the familiar world that we count on—and calls us, at the same time, more deeply into the world. Lauren Fitzgerald, Professor of English and Director, Wilf Campus Writing Center, will moderate the discussion. Co-sponsored by the YC English Department, the Wilf Campus Writing Center, and Pre-Professional Advising Programs.
