Hatzioni Leaders Meet Naftali Bennett

by David Aaronson ('14)
This past Tuesday evening, Hatzioni leaders were privileged to meet Knesset Member Naftali Bennett. Mr. Bennett is the Chairman of the Bayit Yehudi party and currently serves as Israel's Minister of Economy, Minister of Religious Services, and Minister of Diaspora Affairs.
The event began with a VIP reception in YU President Ricjard Joel's office. The YU Administration invited Hatzioni members to attend and meet privately with Mr. Bennett, before his speech in Weissberg Commons. We presented the Minister with the most recent issue of Hatzioni's magazine, and got a chance to tell him about the activities we organize on behalf of the Jewish state. After the VIP reception, we escorted Mr. Bennett downstairs to Weissberg Commons, where he was introduced publicly by Rabbi Kenneth Brander, Vice President and Dean of YU's Center for the Jewish Future.
Mr. Bennett then spoke to some 200 YU students about his experiences as a child of secular Jewish Americans who made aliyah to Haifa and eventually became observant in Torah and mitzvot. He also told us about his business career, which led him to his current political career. Bennett then addressed the topic of secular and religious issues in Israel, and concluded by talking about the threat of a nuclear armed Iran.
It was truly an evening to remember and we wish to thank all of the Hatzioni members and MTA talmidim who joined us for this unique experience.
