Hatzioni Hears from Israel Deputy Prime Minister Ofir Akunis

by David Aaronson ('14)

This past Monday, Hatzioni was privileged to host another terrific guest speaker, Mr. Ofir Akunis, who currently serves as Israel's Deputy Prime Minister and is a Member of Knesset representing the Likud Party.
Upon his arrival to the YU Campus, Deputy Minister Akunis was escorted to the Library where he addressed approximately 50 MTA faculty members and students, primarily those who are involved with Hatzioni. Holding up the most recent edition of the Hatzioni magazine, the Deputy Minister stated that the members of Hatzioni are "the best ambassadors that the State of Israel will ever have."
Following his speech, we brought Deputy Minister Akunis to the twelfth floor of Belfer Hall, where we showed him a beautiful view of New York City. The Deputy Minister, along with several Hatzioni members, then entered the presidential suite for a meeting with President Joel and Rabbi Taubes. Deputy Minister Akunis was very impressed with the administrative leadership of YU and MTA, telling them to "keep up the good work and to continue doing an excellent job."
This visit by Deputy Minister Akunis could not have occurred without the help of so many people. Among them was Nadav Douani, Chief of Staff to the Deputy Minister, Shimmy and Avraham, our photographers for the event, and Rabbi Green & Mr. Gillers, for all their help in coordinating this wonderful gathering. Last but not least, thank you to all who attended and participated. We look forward to seeing you again for future Hatzioni events.
