Varsity Hockey Update

by: Rami Nordlicht ('16) This past Sunday, the MTA Varsity Hockey Lions took on the JEC Thunder in the Lions' Den. The matchup was especially important for the Lions, who were attempting to make up ground in the standings with a few divisional victories. Despite outplaying the Thunder for the vast majority of the game, the Lions found themselves deadlocked in a scoreless tie after the third period buzzer sounded. The Lions were determined to solve the resilient JEC goaltender and did just that when Yosef Stern ('16) hammered home a rebound to give the Lions an exciting 1-0 victory in overtime. We would like to extend a shout-out to goalie Max Herskowitz on an outstanding shutout effort and we look forward to further success in two big games over the coming weekend. On Thursday night, the MTA Varsity Hockey Lions faced off against the Frisch Cougars. Returning to action after an exhilarating overtime victory, the Lions were hoping to build on their momentum and continue their winning streak. Unfortunately, Frisch was ready for the challenge and was able to ambush the Lions with a few first period goals. Although the Lions were gradually able to step up their level of play, they could not recover from the early deficit and lost 6-0. The Lions will look to resume their winning ways when they play the Ramaz Rams on Saturday night in the Lion's Den.
