Giving Back to Our Troops

58c06392-20db-4c75-9d37-d65e0e15e297 by Tzvi Simchon ('20) When our soldiers fight for our country, when they protect those in need, when they keep us safe, don't you think they should receive a proper meal for the holidays? Thanks to the volunteers at KosherTroops, Jewish soldiers in the American Army will get that delicious pomegranate for their Rosh Hashanah meal. On Sunday, September 18th, the MTA freshmen from Rabbi Pearl's shiur, participated in a chessed trip to the KosherTroops main packing facility to help prepare delicious food in large boxes, to be sent to our men in uniform. After the 45 minute bus ride, the first thing we did was watch a short video introducing KosherTroops, so we could better understand what they do. We were paired up in groups of two in order to get the job done efficiently. Each group was given a sheet of paper with a list of foods to pack into the boxes. We made sure to prepare everything a person needs for their Rosh Hashanah meal. Although it seemed simple at first, it was a lot of hard work to make sure that the job was done correctly. Whether it was the crowded food stations or confusing aspects of the packing, it wasn't as easy as it looked. However, as a shiur, we persevered, and we accomplished our goal. Together, we packed many boxes, each box containing food for about 5 to 10 people, meaning that we aided a tremendous amount of soldiers. Overall, we ninth graders did a great chessed and made a big Kiddush Hashem for ourselves, as well as the entire yeshiva. It felt good to know that at the end of the day we did something helpful, productive, and gracious for our men in uniform. We should all keep on doing mitzvot and chessed for our fellow Jews, because that is what is most important.
