Journalist Catheryn Prince Meets with "Names, Not Numbers" Students

by Rafi Felder ('17) 5339d663-da3c-4640-ae9e-b8dc59f27111 This past Tuesday afternoon, students in the "Names, Not Numbers" program enjoyed and participated in an informative meeting with Mrs. Catheryn Prince. During the session, Mrs. Prince, a professional writer and journalist for numerous publications including the Times of Israel and the Christian Science Monitor, gave a presentation outlining dozens of tips and techniques, which we - the future Names, Not Numbers interviewers - can implement in order to improve our interviewing experience. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions that they felt may become relevant, including some on the topic of how to deal with a visibly emotional survivor, an occurrence sure to come up. After all the advice was given, Eli Szafranski ('17) had the chance to put his newly learned skills to the test as he and Mrs. Prince engaged in a 5 minute "mock" interview, where he was able to experiment with different interviewing techniques. After the exchange, the class was invited to offer their critique and praise and then hear from Rabbi Richter and Mrs. Tova Rosenberg before Mrs. Prince once again talked about how to best go about what will be the climax of the Names, Not Numbers project, namely, the interview itself. The students look forward to taking advantage of future Names, Not Numbers events and skill-building sessions.
