Rabbi Richter's Shiur Shabbaton and Hockey Game

by Elishama Marmon ('20) This past Shabbos, Rabbi Richter's shiur gathered at his home in Monsey for a special Shiur Shabbaton. The talmidim came by bus and Uber from Teaneck, Highland Park, Queens, and Brooklyn, arriving in time for candle lighting. They were graciously hosted by some of the neighborhood's other families over Shabbos. On Friday night, the students went to Ohev Shalom for Kabbalas Shabbos and then ate a delicious meal at their Rebbe's house. Later that evening, Rabbi Yehoshua Kohl, the New York Director of NCSY, gave an inspirational speech. On Shabbos morning, the boys davened at Kehillat New Hempstead and then enjoyed a kiddush and lunch at Rabbi Richter's house. The talmidim gave divrei Torah, sang beautiful zemiros, and learned with Rabbi Richter and his family during the course of the afternoon. They also played board games and discussed the divrei Torah that had been shared before enjoying some free time and eventually concluding Shabbos with havdalah. After Shabbos, everyone went to West Point to watch a hockey game between the home team Army Black Knights and the visiting Brown University Bears. The game was close until Brown pulled away towards the end, scoring an open net goal with one minute left to seal a 3-1 victory. Although Army lost, everyone had a great time, and the entire weekend was an amazing bonding experience for all.
