This year, MTA students have continued an initiative that was started by students in 2014, tutoring 3rd graders at PS 189, a local elementary school just down the block from MTA. Twice a week during lunch, seven seniors walk over to the school and each of them tutors two or three students, working at this pont specifically on Math. The PS 189 students view the MTA seniors as mentors and role models. This program creates a new environment for these children, providing personal attention and an opportunity to learn that they otherwise would not have. It also gives the MTA students a glimpse at the local community, allowing us to gain a greater understanding of a different culture and enabling us to give back to this community. "It is extremely rewarding to see how excited the young children are to see us and how grateful they are for our service, as we get to know them and develop a relationship with them," said Rafi Felder ('17). We look forward to the continued success of this unique program.
