The Painting Continues: Upper West Side and Queens Painted Blue!

by Shua Pariser and Raziel Siegman ('17) On Shabbos, February 4th, MTA had its first ever Upper West Side Shabbaton. On Friday evening, the MTA students, accompanied by Rabbi Kahn, Mr. Jacoby, Mr. Matanky, and Mr. Bernstein, enjoyed an uplifting Shabbos Seudah at the home of Ezra Wildes ('17). Following the meal, prospective 8th graders joined the MTA students for a tisch bursting with singing, ruach, and divrei Torah. The next day, everyone ate the Shabbos Seudah at the home of Chaninah Rothenberg ('17), and then hung around at the Rothenberg for a pleasant afternoon. Last Shabbos, MTA held a Queens Shabbaton, with students having a chance to spend Shabbos with their MTA friends and the MTA community. The Shabbaton began on Friday morning with Shacharis at the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates, followed by a delicious breakfast. On Friday evening, all of the participants, including Rabbi Pearl and Mr. Bernstein, gathered together at the Young Israel of Hillcrest for Kabbalas Shabbos followed by the Shabbos Seudah and then walked over to the home of David Kohanchi ('19) for a Friday night tisch, featuring divrei Torah from local Rabbanim Rabbi Dr. Richard Weiss and Rabbi Asher Schechter. On Shabbos morning, everyone reconvened at the Young Israel of Hillcrest for an MTA-led davening and the next Seudah. Thank you to Mr. Elie Hirt for organizing these amazing Shabbatonim;a great time was had by all!
