Rabbi Steven Weil Shares Powerful History of the Six-Day War

by David Tanner ('18) _DSC5809 Every year, on the 28th of Iyar, we celebrate the reunification of of Jerusalem. This year, we celebrated its 50th anniversary, the jubilee. But do we really understand the significance of Yom Yerushalayim? Well, if we didn't before, we certainly do now. On Monday morning, MTA was privileged to hear a dramatic retelling of the Six-Day War and the events which led up to it from Rabbi Steven Weil, Managing Director of the Orthodox Union. Rabbi Weil captivated the audience, talmidim and rebbeim alike, in his retelling of the dire situation the Jews of Israel found themselves in 1967, surrounded on all sides by enemy forces whose dream was to destroy the Jewish people from the face of the earth. The unbelievable story transitions from fear of extinction to an incredible victory and expansion of the State of Israel to many times its size and, of course, the capture and reunification of Yerushalayim. Both those familiar and previously unfamiliar with the details of Six-Day War were entranced by Rabbi Weil's heartfelt presentation, which led to a greater sense of hoda'ah, giving thanks to Hashem, on this past Yom Yerushalayim.
