MTA Baseball Lions Remain Undefeated

By: Akiva Richman (‘19) The MTA Lions Baseball Team continued their dominant season with wins against Haftr on May 9th and Frisch on May 13th.  Going into the game against MTA, Haftr had been undefeated. However, MTA pitchers Daniel Landa ('19), who pitched 6 1/3 innings, and Coby Sorotzkin ('19), who pitched the other 2/3 innings, shut down the Haftr lineup.  The two combined for a no-hitter, yet the game was still close due to the many walks that were issued. MTA’s offense got on the board early in the first inning when Sam Weisman ('18) singled in Landa. Then in the third inning, Gabe Isaacs ('18) hit a two run single.  The game ended with a 4-2 victory for MTA, who claimed lone possession of first place. Next, the Lions faced off against the Frisch Cougars, picking up right where they left off.  With two outs in the first inning Azriel Goldberg ('21) hit a two run single to give MTA the early lead.  Then, with MTA winning 4-0 in the fifth, Sam Weisman hit a three run home run over the left field fence. He wasn't done there, hitting another shot to left field on the first pitch of his next at-bat.  Sorotzkin started the game for MTA on the mound and Gabe Pudell ('21) relieved him, throwing 1 2/3 shutout innings.
