Aliza Bloch, Mayor Of Beit Shemesh, Visits YU

On Wednesday, June 19, 2019, Mayor Aliza Bloch of Beit Shemesh, Israel, visited Yeshiva University to meet with faculty and staff and learn about the University. While she was at the Wilf campus, Ms. Bloch toured the new Innovation Lab, accompanied by Dr. Maria Blekher, director of the Lab as well as the MS in Digital Marketing and Media and a clinical associate professor of digital strategies at the Katz School. The mayor learned about the Israeli startups working with the Lab and how the students apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to their work with the various companies.

While at YU, Mayor Bloch took some time to sit with Dr. Rona Novick, dean of the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration, for a podcast.  They discussed the mayor’s leadership philosophies and styles that have served her in her former position as a school principal and how she applies them in her role as mayor of a diverse city.

“It is so impressive to see the strong commitment to Torah and Jewish values at Yeshiva University,” said Bloch. “A lot of the residents of my city studied here, and it is my goal to explore ways in which to build on the strong connection between YU and the people of Beit Shemesh.”
