Sep 23, 2005
-- More than 650 guests attended a lavish gala on the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Yeshiva College. Friends, alumni, students, faculty, and roshei yeshiva joined the festivities to celebrate this august milestone and the convivial atmosphere on the historic museum was a grand class reunion. More than 9,000 alumni have gone on to professional careers and positions of leadership in the Jewish and general communities in America, Israel and around the world. View dinner photos here. Dinner chairman Stanley Raskas ’65 welcomed the guests and singled out the evening’s honorees, Hadassah and Marvin S. Bienenfeld ’53 and Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein. Mr. Bienenfeld is founding chairman of the College’s Board of Directors, and Mr. Schottenstein served as the Board’s chairman from 1991 to 2002. “Tonight we salute the first 75 years of Yeshiva College and so many alumni who are here,” said Mr. Raskas. “They represent every one of the seven decades of YC graduates and comprise the largest gathering of YC alumni in history.” Mr. Raskas made special mention of Mr. Harry Steinberg ’32, Yeshiva College’s oldest living alumnus. Also honored were 25 faculty members who had rendered 20 or more years of distinguished academic service to the university. In thanking the alumni President Richard M. Joel said, “You represent a major gift to humanity. You have modeled a community and transmitted to your children the same sense of wonder and splendor that shaped our lives. We are owners of a place in time that represents the vision of Torah Umadda that brings wisdom to life.” Some 180 graduates from classes ranging from 1945 to 2005, who live in cities throughout North America, volunteered to serve as class marshals and will participate in anniversary events throughout the 2005-2006 anniversary year.
