Azrieli Graduate School Hosts Seminars in June of At-Risk Children and the Use of Archaelogy in Teaching

Apr 14, 2004 -- YU's Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration will host two seminars this June in cooperation with the Association of Modern Orthodox Day Schools and Yeshiva High Schools.

The first seminar, June 14-15, focuses on "The At-Risk Child and Adolescent in the Orthodox Jewish Community: From Theory to Practice." Presenters include Dr. David Pelcovitz and Dr. Scott Goldberg. Dr. Pelcovitz is director of psychology at North Shore University Hopsital-NYU School of Medicine, and Clinical Professor of psychology in psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine. He also teaches in the RIETS-YU semikha program. He holds a PhD in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Goldberg teaches at AGS and Stern College for Women. He holds a PhD in Applied Psychology from NYU and an MSEd in special education from Bank Street College of Education in New York.

The second seminar, June 16-17, "Using Archaelogy in Teaching Limmudei Kodesh" features Dr. Lawrence H. Schiffman and Dr. Moshe Sokolow. Dr. Schiffman is chairman of NYU's Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies and serves as Ethel and Ervin A. Edelman Professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studies. He received his BA, MA, and PhD from Brandeis University. Dr. Sokolow is Fanya Gottesfeld-Heller Professor of Jewish Education at AGS and is editor of Ten Da'at: A Journal of Jewish Education and Texts and Topics in Jewish Education. He holds a PhD from YU's Bernard Revel Graduate School.
