For YU Students, Learning Doesn't Stop During Intersession

Feb 3, 2005 -- Students who stayed on the Wilf Campus during intersession had the chance to continue their learning, thanks to a new program initiated by two students. Dovid Preil, a YC graduate and second-year student at RIETS, and Micael Ellman, a YC senior simultaneously studying at RIETS and Azrieli Graduate School of Education and Administration, organized Yeshivas Bein Hasemesterim to “provide a learning environment that parallels the experience that YU students have at yeshivot in Israel,” Mr. Ellman said. The program consisted of shiurim (lectures) by numerous rabbis as well as learning in the beit midrash. Forty five students participated. Yeshivas Bein Hasemesterim was approved by YU President Richard M. Joel and Rabbi Zevulun Charlop, Max and Marion Grill Dean of RIETS. “We wanted more students to remain at YU during break to learn and to experience the great assets of the beit midrash, which many students fail to notice throughout the year because of the pressures of school,” Mr. Ellman said.
