On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, the The Rabbi Arthur Schneier Program for International Affairs, the Yeshiva University Center for Israel Studies and the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors Program at Yeshiva College hosted Gidon Bromberg, founder and Israel director of EcoPeace Middle East, for a talk titled “Climate Resilience in the Middle East.” Bromberg discussed how the urgency to address environmental issues amid the climate crisis could motivate regional cooperation in the Middle East. He is a sought-after speaker on water, peace and security issues and has presented before the U.N. Commission for Sustainable Development, the Unites States House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the European Parliament. Bromberg clearly broadened the students’ perspectives with his presentation. “Mr. Bromberg gave me a sense of optimism that until now has been lacking in Israel-Arab relations,” remarked Shimmy Greengart ’25YC. “Not only can we improve in ways beneficial to both sides, but with a small nudge in the right direction, we will.” The Rabbi Arthur Schneier Program for International Affairs of Yeshiva University seeks to promote international understanding and cooperation by providing an educational forum for the exchange of ideas related to diverse critical issues in our increasingly interdependent world. Dr. Eliezer Schnall, director of the Honors Program said, “We look forward to working together again with the Rabbi Arthur Schneier Program again in the future to bring thought-provoking programming and insightful speakers such as Gidon Bromberg to our Honors students.” (Read here for more information on the event.)
