Mourning in Solidarity

My eyes flow with rivers of tears because of the destruction of my people. — Lamentations 3:48

CandleWe were horror-stricken to hear of the terrible attack over Shabbat against the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, likely the deadliest assault against Jews in American history. Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters at Tree of Life and throughout the Squirrel Hill community. That this cowardly anti-Semitic assault was perpetrated during a brit milah, a celebration of new life, only highlights the twisted nature of the evil that has threatened the Jewish people over the ages and against which all people of good conscience must fight. The Yeshiva University community offers its help and support to the Pittsburgh community during this harrowing time and in the days, months and years to come. May God grant our people both the strength to help each other during this time of mourning and the fortitude to rebuild together. And may decent people the world over join together with us in eradicating this most ancient of all hatreds. Dr. Ari Berman President Yeshiva University
