President Joel Greets Volunteer Marshals at Kickoff for Yeshiva College's 75th Anniversary Celebration

Jul 29, 2005 -- Yeshiva College Class Marshals were welcomed by President Richard M. Joel and members of the Yeshiva College Board on July 20 for a sports night and BBQ on the Wilf Campus. The marshals enjoyed the gym, track, fitness room and pool at the Max Stern Athletic Center, followed by a barbecue and networking opportunity with other Yeshiva College marshals. While more than 70 marshals attended the barbecue, more than 175 marshals are volunteering to help create a most successful 75th anniversary celebration of Yeshiva College. Graduating classes from 1940 to 2005 are represented, and the marshals live around the world. “Inviting marshals to become part of this program was an innovative way to get alumni excited about the 75th anniversary,” said Stanley M. Raskas ’65Y,B,R, chairman of the YC@75 Celebration. “News about the celebration will spread from peer to peer, classmate to classmate, in a way that we hope will be very effective and will reinforce ties among alumni.” Mr. Raskas mentioned that the committee is still looking for additional marshals, especially men who graduated in the 1930s. The next part of the YC@75 celebration will result in the largest gathering of YC alumni at one time in the school’s history. On Sept. 21, hundreds of YC alumni will board the USS Intrepid to honor Hadassah and Marvin Bienenfeld and Jeanie and Jay Schottenstein. Mr. Bienenfeld and Mr. Schottenstein are the first and second YC Board chairmen, respectively. Yeshiva College faculty with two decades or more of distinguished academic service will receive the Yeshiva College Faculty Award. “Our primary goals are to get as many alumni, spouses and friends as possible to attend on September 21 and our other YC@75 events, and for them to sense the excitement about what is new and exciting at Yeshiva College,” said Mr. Raskas. “I feel indebted to Yeshiva College for all that it has done for me and for my family members who have attended.” “YC@75 is a milestone around which to rally,” said YC Board of Directors Chairman Joshua L. Muss, ’62YC. “We want to create an opportunity to raise awareness and bring alumni back to see old friends and celebrate.” For further information and to volunteer click here or email YC75@yu.edu .
