Re-Opening a Museum Exhibition

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the YU Museum (YUM) has had to shutter its exhibitions over the past year and a half. However, it is now able to re-open access to From A(gam) to Z(aritsky): Highlights of Israeli Art from YU Museum’s Collection, a marvelous exhibition that highlights the rich collection of Israeli art housed at Yeshiva University Museum and its power to reflect on modern Israeli and Jewish culture, shifting from an earlier virtual tour to having in-person attendance. According to Ilona Moradof, associate director of administration and special projects at YUM, the works on exhibit “trace a dynamic range of artistic perspectives and sensibilities, along with the growth of the nation (the works date from approximately 1930 to 2005).”  She added that “the diversity of work illustrates the interesting balance that exists between a Jewish democratic homeland and modern nation engaged with the world.  Four thematic groupings—Tradition, City and Land, People, Things—add a coherent organization to the exhibition and reveal the interests and concerns of the artists.” Featured are founding masters of Israeli art such as Boris Schatz, Reuven Rubin, and Moshe Tamir, as well as works by more recent artists including Michael Gross, Max Ferguson, and Debbie Kampel.
