Rep. Carolyn Maloney Discusses Political Life as Part of Stern College's Speaker Series

May 17, 2005 -- As part of Stern College's Women in Public and International Affairs speaker series, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-14th District) spoke to students May 9 about her life in politics. Rep. Maloney represents most of Manhattan's Upper East Side as well as Astoria and Long Island City in Queens. She was first elected to Congress in 1992 and serves on the House Financial Services Committee, the Government Reform Committee, and the Joint Economic Committee, of which she is the ranking Democrat. Rep. Maloney also formed the 9/11 Commission Caucus with Rep. Christopher Shays of Connecticut. At the event, held in the Levy Commons at 215 Lexington Ave., the congresswoman also discussed issues in which she is actively involved, including combatting violence against women and women's health, and ending terrorism.
