SCW Presents "The Secret of Prayer" with Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg, PhD, on May 13 in Beverly Hills

May 10, 2004 -- Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg, PhD, visiting lecturer at The London School of Jewish Studies, will deliver a May 13 lecture sponsored by Yeshiva University’s Stern College for Women. “The Secret of Prayer” will take place at 7:30 pm at Beth Jacob Congregation, 9030 West Olympic Blvd., Beverly Hills. The lecture is the fourth in a seven-part series celebrating Stern College’s jubilee. Dr. Zornberg received a doctorate in English literature from Cambridge University and studied at Gateshead Seminary and Michlala in Jerusalem. She has taught English literature at The Hebrew University and Torah to classes at MATAN, Midreshet Lindenbaum, The Pardes Institute for Jewish Studies, and the Jerusalem College for Adults. Dr. Zornberg is the author of several essays and two books: Genesis: The Beginning of Desire, winner of the 1995 Jewish Book Award for non-fiction, and The Particulars of Rapture: Reflections on Exodus. The lecture is co-sponsored by Dr. Marcia Robbins-Wilf, founder of Stern College’s Dr. Marcia Robbins-Wilf Scholar-in-Residence Program and a founding SCW board member. Upcoming lecture topics include medical ethics and halakhah (Jewish law), and the challenges confronting modern Orthodox families and women. Co-chairs of the lecture series are Stern College alumnae Debbie Niderberg ’86 and Cali Orenbuch ’85. Sharon Herzfeld, MD, ’88, and Susan Ungar-Mero, MD, ’87, also Stern graduates, are co-chairing the yearlong jubilee celebration.
