Sol Green, Founder and Dean of Wurzweiler’s Block Program, Passes Away at 99 

Yeshiva University mourns the passing of Sol Green, founder and former dean of the Block Program at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work. Born in 1921 in Odessa, Ukraine, Green was a renowned expert in the field of social work and improved lives around the world with his knowledge, expertise and compassion. He taught social work at the University of Melbourne in Australia, was the founder of the School of Social Work at Bar Ilan University in Israel as well as headed the Y Camps in Montreal, Canada. Throughout his career, Green spent much of his time volunteering and working with Jewish communities in many countries. Green retired in 1988 from Wurzweiler as Professor Emeritus. In 1990, he and his late wife Julia emigrated to Israel and became involved in many organizations, including the Israel Museum, the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies and OneFamily. He will be deeply missed, and we wish our sincerest condolences to his sons Natan and Ezra, brother Pinky, sister Pearl Fontek as well as his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. May the entire family be comforted among all who mourn for Zion and Jerusalem.
