The play explores the rise of the Lehman family and its powerhouse financial firm, Lehman Brothers, and its subsequent fall amid the worldwide financial crisis in 2008. The students were accompanied by Michael Strauss, associate dean of the Sy Syms School of Business; Debra Pine, assistant dean for administration; Dr. Andreas Christopolous, academic director of the Mitzner M.S. in Real Estate Program; and Dan Blank ’97SB, partner at Goldman Sachs in the investment banking division.  (Pine and Dr. Christopolous had both been former employees of Lehman Brothers.) “Going to see the Lehman Trilogy was an amazing opportunity for the Sy Syms Honors students to experience a humorous yet thought-provoking show that illustrated the start and the ultimate downfall of the Lehman Brothers,” said Jonah Brooks ’24SB.

The following morning, Blank hosted a scheduled debrief with the students to discuss lessons of the show as well as to similarities and differences in what was portrayed in the show versus what it was like in real life to work at an investment bank. “Mr. Blank emphasized the critical message of balancing your professorial career while also staying true to your roots and values,” added Brooks. “This was apropos as the Trilogy showed the Lehman family assimilating into secular society while their connection to religion dissipated over time.” Thank you to Jonah Brooks and Jonah Loskove for their contributions to the writing of this article.
