Sy Syms School of Business Awards Prizes for Student Business Plans

Apr 14, 2004 -- The Sy Syms School of Business Dr. William Schwartz Business Plan Competition 2004 recently awarded prizes to four students and their respective plans: 1st place-Gideon Shiffman, Human LoCator; 2nd place-Rosa Aspir & Liana Biniashvili, R & L's Delectable Cakes, and 3rd place-Reuben Kerben, Bionex Corporation.

The plans grew from the Syms course, Principles of Entrepreneurship, in which 30-40 students wrote business plans. The 10 best plans were narrowed to five by a panel of three judges: Josh S. Weston, chairman emeritus of the Syms Board and former chairman and CEO of Automatic Data Processing Inc.; Gerry L. Golub, chair of American Express Tax & Business Services and senior managing director of its New York operations; and Jay N. Goldberg, senior managing director of Hudson Ventures and founder of the London-based consulting company, OPCENTER, LLC.

The final five presenters gave live presentations on March 17 before the judgesl. Monetary prizes, which will be awarded at the Annual Awards Dinner of the Student Association and Student Council of YU’s Sy Syms School of Business on April 20, include $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place, and $2,000 for third place.

Dr. Charles Snow, dean of Sy Syms School of Business said the judges were impressed by the high quality of the students’ presentations.
