From Public School in Montreal to Leader of Oakland Synagogue, Rabbi Gershon Albert ’17R Devoted to Enriching Jewish Experience
Over 600 attendees ensured the historic success of YU’s Montreal Special Convocation and Dinner, held on Monday, June 15, 2009, at the Shaar Hashomayim Congregation in Westmount. The event raised $1,100,000 for scholarships for Canadian students attending Yeshiva University’s undergraduate and graduate schools.
A group of 13 Yeshiva University (YU) graduates from the class of 2008 enjoyed their studies so much that they will stay on for a year after graduation, serving as Presidential Fellows. The prestigious group includes Nilly Brodt of Monreal, Canada.
Four Montrealers are participating in an innovative program at Yeshiva University (YU) this summer. Edith Baumberg and Hana Cohen, teachers at Solomon Schechter Academy of Montreal; Rabbi Yamin Benarroch, dean of students, student advisor, and teacher at Hebrew Academy in Cote St. Luc; and Shalom Spira are part of a program spearheaded by the Canadian Jewish community to train local Jewish educators and education professionals.
Yeshiva University’s Sephardic Community Program and the Jacob E. Safra Institute of Sephardic Studies hosted a delegation of professional and lay leaders from Montreal’s Sephardic community on Oct.13 and 14.
