Chants of “M-T-A” and “R-A-M-S! Rams! Rams! Rams!” reverberated throughout the filled-to-capacity crowd at Yeshiva University’s Max Stern Athletic Center as hundreds of students, parents and alumni gathered to watch the 18th annual Red Sarachek Basketball Tournament championship game between the Yeshiva University High School for Boys / Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy (YUHSB) Lions and the Ramaz Rams—both of Manhattan. In the end, Ramaz’s defense proved too tough for the Lions as the Rams pulled away with a 48-26 victory.
In an edge-of-your-seat finale to the 16th Annual Red Sarachek High School Basketball Tournament, the Young Israel of Century City Panthers (YICC) clinched their sixth trophy as one of the star players from Chicago’s Ida Crown Jewish Academy Aces barely missed a three-point shot at the buzzer. Annual Red Sarachek High School Basketball Tournament Now in Its 16th Year
For the first time in the 15-year history of Yeshiva University’s Red Sarachek Basketball Tournament, the champions emerged from outside the United States. Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto (CHAT) defeated Frisch School of Paramus, NJ, 52-42 April 3 to claim the coveted high school championship.
Seniors Ryan Almaleh and Eric Antes led Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy of Overland Park, KS, to victory at the 13th Annual Red Sarachek Basketball Tournament of Yeshiva University, as the Rams defeated top-seeded and previously unbeaten Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy/Yeshiva University High School for Boys (TMSTA), 50-34, in the championship game March 22.
The 13th annual Red Sarachek High School Basketball Tournament, named for Yeshiva University’s legendary men’s basketball coach, will take place Thursday, March 18 to Sunday, March 22 at YU’s Max Stern Athletic Center on its uptown Wilf Campus, 185th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.
