Feb 11, 2004 — Miriam Ausubel, Leah Fried, and Elizabeth Shayne, seniors at Samuel H. Wang Yeshiva University High School for Girls in Queens, were recently named finalists in the 2004 National Merit Scholarship Program for their outstanding performance on the PSAT exam.
The Evanston, IL-based National Merit Scholarship Corporation named 15,000 scholastically talented finalists nationwide in its 49th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Finalists compete for about 8,000 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $32 million, to be offered this spring.
More than 1.3 million high school juniors in approximately 21,000 US high schools entered the 2004 Merit program by taking the 2002 PSAT exam.
“These students exemplify excellence in all respects, in Torah and in general studies, and it’s wonderful they have been recognized nationally for their achievement,” said Rochelle Brand, principal of SWHSG.
Ms. Ausubel is the daughter of Drs. Rochelle and Kalman Ausubel of Riverdale. Ms. Fried, of Woodmere, is the daughter of Ruth and Sholom Fried and Ms. Shayne, of Great Neck, is the daughter of Chris and Mark Shayne.
