Workshop on WISC-IV Revisions Draws More Than 175

Bronx, NY, Sep 25, 2003 -- On September 25, 2003, the School-Child Child Psychology Program at FGS sponsored a training workshop on the newly revised Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV) The workshop was organized by Dr. Lillian Zach and supported by both the Psychology Student Organization and the Ferkauf Alumni Association. Dr. David Schmerler from Psychological Corporation gave a four-hour presentation. Dr. Schmerler is the New York State Assessment and Measurement Consultant. Everyone was truly laudatory in their comments about Dr. Schmerler’s presentation. His expertise and knowledge was equally matched by his clarity, enthusiasm and fine manner of presentation. The depth of his theoretical and clinical understanding was noteworthy. The workshop was attended by over 175 people consisting of students, faculty, field supervisors and alumni who are working psychologists. Aside from Yeshiva University students, the participants came from more than 70 other school systems and mental health facilities. Dr. Zach announced that the School of Psychology has become a test development partner with Psychological Corporation’s University Outreach Program. This Workshop, therefore, constitutes the first in a series of workshops planned for the coming year. The Program will offer exposure to new assessment tools. It will expose students to research methodology involved in test development and it will permit students to obtain access to data for research projects. Judging from the response of the participants, Dr. Zach felt that this first workshop was a huge success.
