Yeshiva University Hosts Professional Development Seminar for Jewish History Teachers

Jun 15, 2004 — Yeshiva University hosted a one-day professional development seminar for Jewish history teachers on June 15. Three scholars presented new research in Jewish history, for use in shaping courses and classes.

Lecturers were Jacob Reiner, PhD, assistant professor of Jewish history; Bernard Rosensweig, PhD, professor of Jewish history; and Lawrence H. Schiffman, PhD, chairman of the Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies and Ethel and Ervin A. Edelman Professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studies at New York University.

“This program allowed Jewish history teachers to discuss the academic, religious, and pedagogical issues that make their jobs so difficult,” said Dr. Schiffman.

An array of schools were represented including, Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto, Samuel H. Wang Yeshiva University High School for Girls, Stern Hebrew High School (Philadelphia), Westchester Hebrew High School, Yeshiva of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School (Brooklyn), and Yeshivat Rambam (Baltimore).
