Yeshiva University Offers Annual Month of Learning April 18-May 20

-- Medical breakthroughs, sound investment strategies, and challenges that confront the Jewish community will form the backdrop of Yeshiva University's annual Month of Learning. The program, April 18-May 20, features 31 lectures, conferences, and museum exhibits for the more than 25,000 Yeshiva University alumni and the general community in the New York area. “We hope the eclectic programs and events offered during this month will be both thought-provoking and informative,” said Robert Saltzman, university director of alumni affairs. “We welcome participation and feedback from our graduates as to how we can best serve their interests and needs, and, in turn, increase their involvement with the university.” Highlights of the Month of Learning include: Bundles, Hopes and Dreams: Jewish Immigrant Stories by Peninnah Schram, associate professor of speech and drama at Stern College for Women, Tuesday, April 20, 7:30 pm at the Geraldine Schottenstein Cultural Center. Intelligent Medicine: New Thoughts on Prevention and Treatment by Dr. Ronald L. Hoffman, one of America’s foremost complementary medicine practitioners, Wednesday, April 21, 6 pm at the Israel Henry Beren Campus. Yom Ha’atzmaut – Israel Independence Day Concert with Hazan Moshe Tessone performing songs of the Middle East, Andalus, and Sephardic communities, Sunday, April 25, 6:30 pm at the Yeshiva University Museum. Chaos and Cloning: The Intermarriage of Science and Religion by Dr. Carl Feit, Ades Professor of Health Science and chair of natural sciences at Yeshiva University, Tuesday, April 27, 8 pm, Riverdale, NY. Democracy and Religion: Fighting for Israel’s Soul by Rabbi Seth Farber, founder of ITIM (The Jewish Life Information Center) in Jerusalem, Israel, Sunday, May 2, 8 pm, Teaneck, NJ. The People’s Choice: The Life and Times of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbuch by Rabbi Hanoch Teller, educator, author, and lecturer; Thursday, May 6, 8 pm in Livingston, NJ. How to Be a Good Grandparent: Pension and Tax Tips Your Children and Grandchildren Will Thank You For by Henry Rubin, YU senior director of development for gift planning, Wednesday, May 12, 4 pm at the Israel Henry Beren Campus. Vienna: Jews in the City of Music, 1870-1938: A Conversation with Leon Botstein, Carl Schorske, and Michael Steinberg; Thursday, May 13, 7 pm at the Yeshiva University Museum. Forgotten Exodus: Jews Who Fled Arab Countries Since 1940 by Barbara Kessel, who shares excerpts from her latest book, Monday, May 17, 8 pm, in Manhattan.
