LA Shabbaton

Yeshiva University Scholars to Speak Throughout Los Angeles Community, March 4-5

The Los Angeles community will be hosting prominent Yeshiva University visiting scholars over Shabbat, March 4-5, in various shuls around the community. The Shabbaton—sponsored by YU’s Center for the Jewish Future (CJF) —will feature renowned personalities including President Richard Joel; Rabbi Kenneth Brander, David Mitzner Dean of CJF; Rabbi Lawrence Hajioff, instructor of Jewish studies at YU; Dr. Rona Novick, associate professor at Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration; Rabbi Hershel Schachter, RIETS rosh yeshiva; and Dr. Efrat Sobolofsky, director of YUConnects.

“The thriving Jewish community of Los Angeles models many of Yeshiva University’s ideals,” said President Joel. “YU hopes to learn from its vitality and share with it the full gamut of our educational and inspirational resources in an attempt to better weave together the patchwork of Torah U’Madda communities around this country.”

Speakers will spend Shabbat rotating between various shuls in the Beverly Hills, Hancock Park and Valley neighborhoods. The weekend will also feature special programming with community high schools and performances by the Maccabeats, YU’s popular a capella group and recent YouTube sensation.

“Ever since I arrived in LA 25 years ago it has been one of my goals to make Yeshiva University’s presence felt both in my shul and the community,” said Rabbi Elazar Muskin, rabbi of Young Israel of Century City and a graduate of YU’s Yeshiva College, RIETS and Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies. “Today some of our finest and most talented young men and women attend YU. I am delighted to see that we are finally able to bring some of their best spokespeople to LA for a Shabbat devoted to highlighting YU’s impact on Jewish life in America.”
