Care Café Supports Community Awareness of Domestic Violence

By Kimberly Moore
Care Café Director

As we continue our efforts to support community awareness around Domestic Violence prevention and critical work with vulnerable populations, on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, Wurzweiler’s Care Café co-hosted a Wellness Check-in gathering with the members of W.A.R.M (We All Really Matter).

Stephanie McGraw

Founder and CEO Stephanie McGraw and her gracious staff coordinators welcomed the Care Café team for another collaboration with the goal of engaging program participants served by W.A.R.M, during their most vulnerable times one year ago, to check in on their progress, assess their current levels of stabilization and offer support and resources as needed.

Captain Alvarez of NYPD 32nd Precinct in Harlem offered remarks regarding the successful partnership with W.A.R.M.

In a room filled wall to wall with members and their families, McGraw “welcomed members home.” The event guest speakers included representatives from the New York District Attorney’s office in Harlem, New York Police Department (NYPD) Domestic Violence Unit, and local faith leaders who offered words of encouragement and information about strategies to support victims, survivors, and their families seeking to disconnect from danger and connecting to help in order to eliminate vicious cycles of violence.

Care Café team members provided onsite confidential one-on-one consultations for participants who requested these services. Accolades are an order for the Care Café Team Interns. Tina T., the evening’s keynote speaker, presented “From Adversity to Resilience!” The crowd was attentive and engaged with many outbursts of laughter and an eagerness for open group sharing. Allysha B. delivered an inspiring spoken word poem about community social justice awareness. Olivia B. supported the organizing of the event with space setup and played a critical role in completing intake forms for members seeking one-on one-consultation with Care Café after our presentation!
