Wurzweiler Alumni Network Back in Action

After a few years of dormancy, the Wurzweiler Alumni Network is back in action. The kickoff program featuring Wurzweiler Assistant Professor, Dr. Debbie Akerman, took place on June 26.  This event, the first in a series of Coffee Talks with Wurzweiler faculty, discussed sex as an addiction.  In her talk, Dr. Akerman highlighted several aspects of addiction. She explored cultural and religious variables that may be associated with addictive behaviors and the similarities between addictive sexual behaviors and other addictive behaviors.  Dr. Akerman also discussed the role and easy access to pornography and how this has contributed to addictive behaviors. The event was well received and will be reprised in the fall. The next Coffee Talk event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 11, featuring Associate Professor Dr. Lynn Levy who will present on a Spiritual Approach to Trauma and Healing. The last event in the Coffee Talk series will take place on Sunday, Nov. 13, featuring Dr. Hanni Flaherty speaking on Adolescent Nonsuicidal Self-injury.
